Breakfast with Santa at the Brand New Jefferson Park YMCA- Saturday, December 19, 2009

Knoxville YMCALooking for something to do other than being stuck in traffic or waiting in lines at local retail stores?  The brand new (and I mean new, this place is not even open yet!) Jefferson Park YMCA is hosting a Pancake Breakfast with Santa for kids.

What a great opportunity to not only check out Knoxville's newest fitness center, but also enjoy some nice photo opts with Santa.

If you are not already a YMCA member you can also take this time to become a membership.  This could be a great family Holiday present.  As a current YMCA member myself, I highly recommend it- this was our family present 3 years ago.

Young Williams Animal Shelter is opening a new Building in Knoxville TN

The Young Williams Animal Shelter has begun work on opening up a new facility in Knoxville TN.  The new shelter will be located in the middle of Knoxville right at the intersection of Dean Hill Drive and Kingston Pike - the main road that runs through town.

The new facility will allow the Young Williams Animal Shelter to house more animals and help prevent euthanization.  The animal shelter says that the new building will allow them to save about 15,000 lives!

I personally have 2 dogs and 2 cats that came from the Young Williams Animal Shelter - we refer to them as our Young Williams Collection.  They are the best animals and are incredibly well rounded and loving.  As I write this, 3 are laying on me and the 4th is at the foot of my daughters bed.

The main shelter on division street will remain open.  If you are interested in adopting a new pet check out the Young Williams Animal Shelter before you run off and purchase one.

Below is a picture of super cute 4 legged companions that I got from the Young Williams Animal Shelter:

Ijams Nature Center- Fun Things to do in Knoxville TN

Ijams nature center

Knoxville, TN has had the tendency to attract lots of visitors and tourists who flock to the area to enjoy the magnificent scenery and visit the multitude of area parks including the Great Smoky Mountains- the most visited National Park in the country.

While the Great Smoky Mountains are great and have a lot to offer sometimes I don't feel like battling all the tourists trying to get up there.  Sometimes, I just get the urge to throw the kids in the car and enjoy the great outdoors instead of fighting through traffic.

Ijams Nature Center located in South Knoxville is a great place to visit.

Ijams Nature Center

Inside the visitors center you will find a nature center devoted to education- especially conservation and recycling, fun and interactive nature displays, and even a live animal collection.

The building is built with sustainability in mind and even the bathrooms are environmentally friendly.

Whether you are looking for just a short nature walk or a day of hiking, you can find it at Ijams Nature Center- the trails are well maintained and it is a great place to get your minds off the stresses of everyday life.

The Sunsphere: Fun things to do in Knoxville TN

things to do in knoxville tn

As a Knoxville relocation specialist we have the pleasure of working with many out of town Buyers.  Buyers who have never visited Knoxville, TN before are often confused and in awe of one of Knoxville's best known landmarks- the Knoxville Sunsphere.  However, the lack of knowledge about the Knoxville Sunsphere is not just with out of towners, as many local residents have no idea what it is as well.

So what exactly is the Sunsphere?
The Sunsphere is a 266 feet tall  steel tower that contains a 75 foot diameter globe with gold colored glass that was designed for the 1982 World's Fair that was held in Knoxville TN.

So what is inside the Sunsphere?
The interior (golden globe portion) of the sunsphere contains 5 levels.  During the 1982 World's Fair there was a restaurant for visitors to enjoy a 360 panoramic view of Knoxville- including great views of the river and Great Smoky Mountains.  Currently, on the 4th floor of the sunsphere is home to a 360 observation deck/museum that has great views of Knoxville and is FREE!  On 5th floor is a quaint little bar/ light restaurant that is smoke free and offers great priced beverages and homemade fresh foods.  This area can also be rented out for events and is available for catering as well.  The other remaining floors are homes to fun things to do in knoxville tn area businesses.

Where is the Sunsphere?
The sunsphere is located on the Old World's Fair Park which now includes the Knoxville Convention Center, the Knoxville Symphony Outdoor Amphitheater, Veterans Memorial, World's Fair Sprinkler Park, duck pond and fountains, the Knoxville Museum of Art, Fort Kid, and the new World's Fair Park Playground (just opened July 8, 2009).

So next time you are looking for things to do in Knoxville TN head on down to the World's Fair Park and check out some of the fun and free things that Knoxville has to offer.

After visiting and playing at the World's Fair Park head over to Market Square which is filled with even more things to do in Knoxville Tn including some great places to eat.

Looking for Something to Do in Knoxville TN- Why not Head Downtown to Market Square

Sunsphere Knoxville TN

If you are looking for fun things to do in Knoxville TN how about paying a visit to the Downtown Knoxville area.  Over the past couple of years the City of Knoxville has done quite a bit to revitalize the Downtown Knoxville area.  Many of the old buildings have been converted into stylish downtown residential areas causing more and more businesses to move downtown as well.

One of my personal favorite hot spots is Market Square.  Market square, located in the center of Downtown Knoxville (runs from Wall Avenue to Union Avenue and located directly behind Gay Street) is closed off to traffic and contains a myriad of quaint boutiques and shops including Bliss and Earth to Old City as well as a variety of restaurants, cafes, and bars including- Oodles Uncorked, Tomato Head, Shonos', Koi Asian Bistro, La Costa, and the Preservation Pub just to name a few.

Market Square Knoxville TNMarket Square is named after the old Market House which was located in the center of the existing square.  The Market House served as a place for local farmers to gather to sell and trade their goods.  The bell from the old Market House is located at the far Southern portion of Market Square next to the TN Women’s' Sufferage Monument.

Market Square offers lots of seasonal activities and events such as: Holiday on Ice- ice skating on the Square, Christmas in the City, Rossini Festival, Sundown in the City, Autumn on the Square, Market Square Film Festival, Farmer's Market, water play fountains, as well as a variety of music festivals and art events such as Shakespeare on the Square.

Market Square in Knoxville TN is a great place to come both day (meter and paid garage parking, or ride the trolley) and night (free parking after 6 in all downtown area garages) and offers a wonderful location to watch events, shop, eat, or just take your dog for a walk.

Downtown Knoxville is a great place to work, visit, play, and live.  Instantly search all for all homes and condos for sale in Downtown Knoxville at www.MyKnoxvilleHomeSearch.com.
